Receiver was composed as the second piece in a three part conceptual, visual, and audio art performance night called “Singularity” which occurred on January 28, 2017. The artists were tasked with composing and performing three different pieces responding to Kurzweil’s singularity thesis. Each of the pieces was based on a different theme; “Receiver” dealt with the possible implications of technological singularity for society as such. The result was a meditation on past/present/future techne and logos, channeling Prometheus via Hölderlin and Shelley, filtered through Mad Max, Blade Runner, and Westworld. This work is a questioning concerning technology as much as a critique of instrumental reason. Scanner tries to make contact. Unbound opens up a portal. Stone to Stone summons the God. In Jetzt komme, Feuer! We await the day… Aftersight brings wisdom against our will. Techne: acceleration metastasizes; global enframing. Logos: offering, prayer, breath, silence.
